With a diverse range of experiences on-offer, the Adelaide Hills region boasts some of South Australia's most iconic experiences, right on Adelaide's doorstep. Head to Mount Lofty for spectacular views over Adelaide, drink and dine like royalty in the German village of Hahndorf or visit our furry friends at Cleland Wildlife Park. Towns throughout the Adelaide Hills have a rich history with gorgeous heritage-listed properties, parks, gardens and reserves aplenty. Stirling, Hahndorf, Bridgewater and Crafers boast iconic wineries, restaurants, pubs, halls, houses and venues, all ready and waiting to be discovered.

Conservation & wildlife parks

The Hills has no shortage of reasons to get outside. Trails wind through national parks, where a kangaroo might cross your path or a kookaburra announces itself from a branch overhead. The Mount Lofty Botanic Gardens offer a slower kind of afternoon, full of plant species you couldn't name but can't stop looking at. For those who want wildlife a little closer, the region's sanctuaries put you nose-to-nose with the locals. Out here, the wildlife outnumbers the visitors.

Heritage & History

Every corner of the Adelaide Hills has a story. The Peramangk and Kaurna peoples have called this land home for thousands of years. Their connection to the ranges, the waterways and the bush run deeper than any map can show. Hahndorf's German influence adds another layer — but there's also locomotive history, opal trails, museums and galleries tucked across the region. Dig a little and you'll find layers that go back further than you'd expect.

Pick Your Own & Shop Local

There's something about picking it yourself that makes it taste better. Stone fruit, berries and lavender grow across the Adelaide Hills, and many farms let you get your hands dirty. Hahndorf Lavender Estate opens for pick-your-own bouquets during blooming season in December and January. Roadside stalls selling local fruit, vegetables and flowers dot the drives year-round. For keepsakes, pay a visit to Jurlique, Melba's Chocolates and boutiques scattered across the region are full of things worth carrying home.
