There are more than 40 wineries and vineyards in the Clare Valley, plus galleries, museums, historic properties, iconic landmarks and attractions. From Sevenhill to Watervale; Mintaro to Burra; each town boasts its own unique character and feel. Spend your days dining at fantastic restaurants, perusing food and produce markets or exploring historic towns. Visit galleries in Clare, Blyth, Watervale and Armagh or historical Martindale Hall. See the best of Clare on two wheels, peddaling your way from cellar door to cellar door on the 35km Clare Valley Riesling Trail.

Heritage & History

In old stone streets, cellar doors still carry the region’s early wine story. At Sevenhill, Jesuits planted vines in 1851 for sacramental wine and that beginning can still be found today between the tasting counter and church. Further north, Burra tells the harder-edged story. Copper drew people into the red dirt, leaving mine ruins and lookout points that still feel worked by heat.

Trails & Natural landmarks

To map out your days, roll up to the Clare Valley Wine, Food and Tourism Centre first to grab a coffee and gather some local advice from the counter. From there, a network of trails leads you straight into the landscape. You can pedal the Clare Valley Riesling Trail to balance the morning's sweat with a cold glass of wine, or pace yourself along the Lomandra walking trail where the magpies call from the gums. Then, follow the ridges down to where the vineyards finish and the pink salt of Lake Bumbunga crunches under your boots.
