The Adelaide Hills Cup brings the Big Blind League to Simon Tolley Wines in Woodside — South Australia's boldest new wine event, where competitive blind tasting is run as a real sport and the label counts for nothing. Every wine is poured in a black glass, no labels and no peeking, so the palate is the only thing in play. Fittingly, the region's hero grape, Adelaide Hills Chardonnay, is on the table alongside wines from further afield.

Whether you taste for a living or have never swirled a glass, there is a seat at the table, and anyone aged 18 and over can enter. Players work through a blind flight, survive the cut, then battle through knockout rounds to a single champion. Spectators are welcome, and it is as much fun to watch as to play.

Win the Adelaide Hills Cup and you take the "Free Run" — an automatic seat at the season's Grand Final, where 24 of the state's sharpest palates taste wines from across the globe for $5,000, winner takes all. It is a great leveller: in 2025 a bacteriologist with no wine background beat a room of seasoned professionals.

The Adelaide Hills Cup is one of five Regional Cups touring the state from July to November, created by South Australian wine-media brand Bottle Shock. Places are limited.
