John Horrocks Cottage, located in Penwortham within the Clare Valley of South Australia, is a historically significant structure constructed in 1839 by the pioneering explorer John Ainsworth Horrocks.
As one of the earliest European settlers in the region, Horrocks played a vital role in the development of the area. He established and named the village of Penwortham, drawing inspiration from his hometown in Lancashire, England.

The cottage holds the distinction of being the oldest stone building situated north of Gawler. It has undergone recent restoration efforts to preserve its original architectural features, ensuring that its historical integrity remains intact. The restoration process aimed to maintain the building's authenticity, providing visitors with an experience that closely resembles its original state.

Adjacent to the main cottage is a meticulously restored stone outbuilding. This auxiliary structure houses a curated collection of photographs and literature that document the history of the cottage and the surrounding region. These exhibits serve to educate visitors about the local heritage and the pioneering history associated with the site.

The property is accessible to the public on the first Sunday of each month, with additional viewing arrangements available by appointment. This schedule allows for controlled access, ensuring the preservation of the site while providing educational opportunities for visitors interested in South Australia's early colonial history.
