Southern Ocean Lodge invites guests to experience the wild beauty of Kangaroo Island through an immersive photographic journey led by acclaimed travel photographer and Canon Master Richard I'Anson.

With just ten guests, the KI Photo Safari is an intimate, four-night expedition designed to capture the island's extraordinary landscapes and abundant wildlife. Guided by Richard's expert eye, each day unfolds from first light to golden hour, with hands-on tuition and informal feedback supporting both the technical and creative aspects of travel photography.

Often described as Australia's own Galapagos, Kangaroo Island offers a rich and varied canvas - from rugged coastlines and soaring limestone cliffs to turquoise bays, mallee scrub and eucalypt forests. Wildlife encounters are equally compelling, with opportunities to photograph sea lions, fur seals, koalas and kangaroos in their natural habitat.

Highlights include sunrise access at Seal Bay, golden hour sessions at the sculptural Remarkable Rocks, and visits to Admirals Arch and Cape du Couedic Lighthouse. A pre-dawn shoot is rewarded with a gourmet beachside breakfast, while evenings invite fireside conversation and image review back at the lodge.

With Southern Ocean Lodge as a luxurious basecamp, this thoughtfully curated safari blends creative exploration with relaxed hospitality - offering a rare opportunity to see, learn and capture Kangaroo Island through a master's lens.
