The Whyalla Maritime Museum specialises in World War II history, BHP shipbuilding, the maritime and natural history of the Upper Spencer Gulf, and Barngarla heritage. Its centrepiece, HMAS Whyalla, was the first modern warship built in South Australia in 1941 and now stands on dry land, two kilometres from the sea.

Explore the Maritime Museum's permanent exhibitions showcasing the region's diverse marine habitats, discover an 1814 edition of Matthew Flinders' journals, artefacts recovered from historic shipwrecks, the Singing to the Sharks exhibition celebrating the area's Aboriginal cultural heritage and connection to the sea, and one of the largest HO gauge model railway displays in the Southern Hemisphere.

Admission includes entry to the Maritime Museum and gardens, plus a guided tour aboard HMAS Whyalla. Guided ship tours are conducted daily. Access to HMAS Whyalla is by guided tour only, and closed-in footwear is required.

Entry to the Maritime Museum is via the Whyalla Visitor Centre.
